Dave Hicks’ Legacy in Ginseng

14_edited.jpg

Dave Hicks was a lifelong steward of the land and a respected dealer of wild ginseng roots, a tradition his family carried on for over 60 years in New York and Vermont. His passion for ginseng went beyond business — it was a way of life, deeply tied to nature, history, and heritage.

Ginseng hunting itself is an old-fashioned practice, dating back to colonial times when it provided income and even played a role in early American trade. Today, international treaties regulate the sale of American ginseng, creating federal and state guidelines that help protect this treasured root. Ginseng continues to grow throughout the eastern United States, from the Canadian border to Georgia and as far west as Oklahoma — in the same forests Dave knew and loved.

To honor his legacy, we are proud to share literature and articles that featured Dave and his work. One such article can be found here: Read the article here

Dave’s knowledge, integrity, and love for ginseng remain an important part of his story, and we are grateful to preserve that memory for all who visit here.
